This immersive museum in downtown Abilene brings the Old West to life with state-of-the-art holographic displays and interactive exhibits. Visitors can explore the history of West Texas through stories of cowboys, Native Americans, and settlers. It also serves as the official visitor center for Abilene and the Texas Forts Trail Region.
Home to over 1,000 animals across 250 species, the Abilene Zoo offers experiences like hand-feeding giraffes and exploring exhibits such as the Caribbean Cove and Elm Creek Backyard. Located in Grover Nelson Park, it features a carousel, train rides, and swan paddle boats. The zoo is open year-round, except on major holidays, and draws 250,000 visitors annually.
This mid-19th-century U.S. Army fort, located 13 miles north of Elmdale RV Park, features haunting rows of stone chimneys and three remaining buildings: a guardhouse, powder magazine, and commissary. Visitors can walk the grounds to learn about its role in protecting westward settlers. The site offers a short, informative hike through Texas history.
Less than a half hour drive from Elmdale RV Park, this living history museum recreates life on the West Texas frontier with 20 historic buildings and artifacts like firearms and Native American relics. Guided tours provide insights into late 19th- and early 20th-century life. The village offers a hands-on experience of pioneer days.
Located 16 miles southwest of Abilene, this 530-acre park along Elm Creek offers camping, hiking, fishing, and a historic 1930s swimming pool built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Visitors can kayak or canoe on Lake Abilene, explore over five miles of trails, or enjoy birdwatching.

Guest is subject to and agrees to comply with all “Park Rules”, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference. Elmdale RV Park, LLC may modify the Park Rules from time to time at its discretion. Tenant hereby acknowledges receipt of the current Park Rules. Tenant also agrees and acknowledges that failure to comply with all Park Rules will constitute a material default of this Agreement and will be cause for
immediate eviction and removal from the RV Park.
